Recent Interesting Stuff Roundup - 12th Jan

Rightho, stumbled across quite a bit of interesting stuff recently, and in a world of logic and reason, quite a lot of recent interesting stuff needs a recent interesting stuff roundup.

There’s a few interesting things going on at BCU -

- Dial In

A new radio show/podcast about Birmingham music on the BCU based Scratch Radio

They say

The basic idea for the show is to let those involved in Midlands music have a way of promoting what they do, and for listeners to have a way of hearing what is happening in the region.

The show will be weekly and will be cover everything about Midlands music from artists, bands and dj’s through to promoters, venues, labels, podcasts and websites that come from the region.

So get in touch via their website or myspace.

- Birmingham Music Library

Someone called Jez Collins got in touch to mention a new website at http://www.birminghammusicarchive.co.uk with Birmingham City University. The aim is to celebrate music past in Birmingham, of which - which to be honest is a massive project to take on. There’s a lot. They’re trying to get musicians and other people involved in Birmingham music to tell their stories.

They’re also currently looking for people to test the site. If you want more information you can contact contact Jez on jez.collins@bcu.ac.uk.

There’s some good new music around too.

- New The Will to Rally EP

The Will to Rally recently uploaded a new six track EP onto their myspace. It’s good, and it’s called… EP1! being their first EP. They should be playing some tracks from it at a free gig on Friday 23rd at The Victoria - but more on that later!

- We Love Horowitz

Some of you may remember Horowitz who dished out a lovely warm serving of fuzzpop at an Autumn Store about 11 months ago and who really should come back. They’ve got a new EP out on Cloudberry soon. Title track is called How To Look Imploring and is well worth heading over to their myspace to listen.

- A Layer of Chips

There’s also a new indiepop and politics blog as the A Layer of Chips fanzine becomes a blog (and if you google A Layer of Chips you too can see the anecdote about the specific layer of chips it’s named after). And a very well tended one so far I might add.
