Compilations for San Diego

I’ve spent the last few hours putting together a compilation CD as part of a swap on Bowlie. It’s going to a 17 year old pop kid in San Diego so I hope I’ve got the right balance here between obscure stuff that a pop kid may like and stuff a pop kid may have heard of. Here it is -

1. You are the Generation Who Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve - Johnny Boy
2. Come Play With Me - The Wedding Present
3. Foxy Boxer - Bearsuit
4. Yo-Yo - KateGoes
5. Bloodlines - Monkey Swallows the Universe
6. Tuatha Danaan - Jesmond Villas and the Quids
7. Summer’s Here - The School
8. Get It Together - The Go! Team
9. Evil - Misty’s Big Adventure
10. The Man With The Black Moustache - Monochrome Set
11. On TV - Slumber Party
12. Marfa Lights - Dirty On Purpose
13. The Way You Used to Smile - The Reseach
14. Christian Girls - Hefner
15. Sylvie - St Etienne
16. Dance With Your Shadow - Rough Bunnies
17. Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo - Jens Lekman

Dirty on Purpose sticks out a bit like a sore thumb, I spent ages trying to figure out the tracks that go before it and after it. Not 100% convinved by The School/The Go! Team/Misty’s progression either.

Sadly, I couldn’t quite fit on The Stars In Spring by Epic 45 (possibly one of the loveliest instrumentals released in 2007) it was on the first two drafts of the tracklistings, but no matter how hard I tried it broke up the flow of the compilation too much and I couldn’t find a way to bookend it with two quieter ethereal tracks (it almost works between Slumber Party and Dirty on Purpose… but not quite).

It’s such a shame to leave it out though, the CD doesn’t have to be sent out ’till Friday so I’ll mull it over a bit more…
