The Autumn Store is Birmingham's night of indiepop, and this is it's blog. Topics include music and gig reviews, tips on promoting, maybe guitar chords for songs I love, and music chit chat in general.

These labels deserve all the recognition they can get. In my opinion it is much harder to do this without loads of money but somehow these folk do through sheer determination.

Brilliant post, Dunc. For every crap, over-produced, over-priced piece of mainstream music, there is a lovingly assembled cd-r release or even a few songs stuck on a blank cd just to get the word out that good music actually exists and it's not a figment of our lollipoped-out imagination.

I'm a 100% mp3 kid these days - CDs are just a vehicle for the music to be ripped and thrown in the cupboard - but I do like CD-Rs that remind me of zines. One that springs to mind is The Mathletes http://www.myspace.com/themathletes whose CD came in a lovingly created package that was worth 10 times what they were charging. That sense of something being "an object" is not always a good thing since the music is where it's at but sometimes the object can be worth it. It's all about the love, I guess.
