The Indie Lounge in Selly Oak
Mmm, whilst your roving reporter was out on his travels today, he came across a new venue called The Indie Lounge in Selly Oak, on the corner of Hubert Road, opposite Aldi.
If I’m being honest, the rugged ‘edgy’ font of the sign hints that it’s indie the brand, not indie the dream - but it seems to have a tie in with Club NME so maybe they have live bands, and *hopefully* it *could* do good things for local music in an area where bands don’t play often.
It’s having it’s launch do this Thursday, (with cheap drinks if you have an NUS card) - and I might pop in to see what it’s like. If anyone has any more details then let me know in the comments box.

Hi Mate,
Don’t suppose you know if they are after a DJ for opening night?
I am a local DJ/music student with a compact PA system (not too loud or quiet) & would love to play at the venue. I play Indie/Soft Rock etc and take requests.
Would be very interested at playing at the venue.

Hey hey
I’m not sure to be honest, I didn’t make it down last night in the end - it’s probably worth popping in and asking though.
If you find anything out about the place then let me know!

Have you seen their facebook group - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=29797190464
That’s probably the best way to get in touch with them, I’ve not seen any live bands advertised though.
Ooh, looking at their Facebook group they’re encouraging local bands to drop demo CDs in too and they’ll promote the best ones by playing some of the tracks in the bar.
